Just wanted to jot down some thoughts about a study I was going through this morning…The study was on ‘love’: what it is, what it is not, where it comes from, what the effects are for those who give it and those who receive it. The author of the study made many profound statements, but this one is the one I grabbed to meditate on today:

“Choose your love and love your choice.” I think in our postmodern society we have lost sight of the fact that love is a choice more than it is a feeling. I think because we think we can ‘fall out of love’ we have lost the true meaning of it in the first place. Because through the centuries, people stayed married because they CHOSE to live by the quote above, divorce was nearly unheard of. I’m not so sure that ‘falling out of love’ is not our own fault…thoughts to ponder…

Shake it up…

So….like just about everybody else, the recent economic situation has been in the forefront of what we do, say, watch, etc. in our home lately. And, it’s got me thinking about Hebrews 12…What is Hebrews 12 you say? Well, this is the chapter in the Bible that directly follows the “Hall of Faith” that names and outlines those in the Old Testament that showed incredible faith by believing for something that they could not see. In Chapter 12, the author of Hebrews spends the first part talking to us about not whining…or so it seems to me. Basically, if you think your life is bad or hard, remember that that is what makes you God’s. It’s training…training for what you say? It’s training for what we will be doing with Him for the rest of eternity…which is a lot longer than this life…wouldn’t you agree?
Anyway, it’s the last part of the chapter that excites me about what is currently going on in our country, in our towns, our homes and our families. God says that he is going to ‘shake it up.’ He’s going to shake off everything that can be shaken off. Well, what’s left after you shake off all the loose excess stuff? The Unshakeable!! Awesome!!
So, how does this translate to me? Well, I now find myself thankful for a lot more than I was thankful for before. Like, my car is paid for…it may not be the latest and greatest, but it’s one thing that we don’t have to pay for each month. Also, I may not have liked the fact that my husband was on the night shift and gone in the middle of the night while we are sleeping, but now I am VERY thankful for that night shift…you know what I’m saying? You’re feelin’ me aren’t you? I realize that I had gotten ‘greedy’ in my excess…that WE had gotten greedy in OUR excess. Now, we are more thankful for what we should be thankful for and not expecting all of our whims to be met. Maybe that’s not you…if so, I’m so glad you have not digressed with the MANY blessings God has given to this country. I know that I am thankful where I haven’t been before and I’m jumping for joy to see that I am not the only one who has had this change of heart. God is transforming my heart…again….and I am thankful…Shake It Up!!!

So, I’m all into Facebook…for those of you who haven’t discovered it yet, it’s a place to catch up with your friends and keep up with them. I have been chatting with people I haven’t seen in 20 years or so…tells my age huh?!! Anyway, it has given me a chance to look back through some of my old memories, remember where I was, and see where I am now. It’s good to do that sometimes I think because it has helped me to focus on what God has done in me since the last time I saw some of these people. It has helped me realize how He is always there and working things out in every step along my life’s journey…good stuff!!

God’s got me singing…

Ok, so…I don’t know about y’all, but God has me do some pretty “outside-my-box” things. Pretty much every day, he’s got me stretching out there past where I am comfotable…can anybody out there relate? So, recently, He has had my friend and I start back with the music ministry we had stopped 3 years ago. That in itself was VERY much a stretch, but now, He’s got me singing. I play guitar and I write lyrics…My friend is a phenominal singer as well as writer. I was very much good with that set-up. She sings; I play; we’re good. No…Now, God’s got me singing and it is stretching my little comfort zone write off my map…Whew!!

First Sunday

Man oh man…First Sunday was AWESOME!!! I can not remember the last time we absolutely let loose in church like that! In fact, I’m not sure we have ever gone that over the top with worship. I was able to really let lose and worship my guts out…and you know what was the best part? The congregation was right in there with us letting it rip!! I could hear them all night long singing LOUDLY. I know they were loud because I wear in-ear monitors (which means I have headphones in my ears to hear the music) and I could hear them anyway…I LOVE being a Christian and being able to let lose and worship my God like that…unhindered and free to show Him how much I love Him…If any of you reading this were there, Kudos from me…Thanks for giving it all you got! It moved me!

Ok, I joined Facebook…WOW!! I hooked up with people I have not seen in YEARS!!! Don’t know if you’ve checked it out, but it is a lot of fun. I’m loving getting in touch with all my college buddies as weel as recent friends that we don’t get to talk much.

New Group Name

So what do you think? We changed our group name. Skar is the Latin root spelling of scar which means a wound that has healed and Lett is the German root spelling of the word ‘let’ which means to allow or in tennis is a serve that you can ‘do over’. It’s cool that God has healed our wounds and has allowed us a chance to ‘do’ our ministry over again…tell me what you think…

Picking It Up Again

Sooo, I started this blog with much anticipation of using it as an outlet for me to write down some thoughts. As it turns out, life hit and some things have had to go by the wayside…this being one of them. Exercise was another…both of these should probably be put back on the schedule. Anyway, I’m pretty sure I’ve lost anyone who would have been interested in reading my ramblings, but nevertheless, I will ramble on…maybe someone will get something out of it at some point…

Slow Food

Ok…I don’t know about anyone else, but I HATE Burger King!!! So, last Sunday I was coming home from church and decided I would get my kids something to eat and I would let them choose where they wanted to go. Usually I let them choose and when they choose Burger King, I say no…anywhere else but there. However, this Sunday I was feeling generous and thought “How bad can it be? Maybe they’ve improved since the last time I went there. I can’t even remember the last time I went there. Surely they’ve improved.”

So, I pull up to the drive through mic and place my order. That was a little frustrating because the person was having a hard time understanding my order, but hey, it’ll be ok. Well…It took me half an hour to get from the mic to the window and the guy in front of me had a trailer on the back of his truck which means it was taking up two car spaces…They only had to get food to 3 PEOPLE!!! And it took half an hour to get through the drive through. And of course!!! you know they didn’t get the order right. You know kids don’t want ‘this’ on their sandwich or they do want ‘that’ on their sandwich…no, they got a whole bunch of stuff they didn’t want…So, you know that meant an argument when it was time to eat because they didn’t want the stuff they got!!

All I’m saying is that if you are going to have a slogan that says “Your way right away” you better make that your priority. At the Burger King down the road from me…the slogan is “Our way when we feel like!!”
